Super performance...Just wonderful...Stunning...
Are some of the comments made by audience members after a recent program of choral music by the Santa Fe Men's Camerata. The Camerata was first conceived of in the Fall of 1998. A local Santa Fe singer decided at that time to avail Santa Fe audiences and singers of the joyful experience of hearing and singing male choral music, with its rich sonorities and various moods of passion and play.
The Camerata's repertoire ranges from Mendelssohn to McCartney, the Yale Songbook to Gregorian chants, from sacred music to rounds to spirituals and the blues. The ensemble offers several programs each year, as well as participating in various fund raising events of Santa Fe's health and welfare organizations.
The Cameratas conductor is Texas native Kenneth Knight, who received his B. A. degree in music theory from Yale University, where he was a vocal soloist with the Yale Glee Club and the Whiffenpoofs. After graduate study in musicology and conducting at the Manhattan School of Music in New York, he toured for several seasons. In 1987 he was chosen as the cantor for the papal masses at the Los Angeles Coliseum and Dodger Stadium during the visit of Pope John Paul II. Now residing in Santa Fe, Ken also conducts Canticum Novum and The Zia Singers.
