A New Song for Santa Fe
As a professional group specializing in choral-orchestral chamber music, Canticum Novum occupies a unique niche within the classical music community of Santa Fe. Primarily performing masses, requiems, motets, passions, oratorios, cantatas and even opera choruses, it is the only group in Santa Fe offering this exciting fare other than on an occasional basis.

Conceived of by Executive Director John Onstad, the group grew out of his passion for the cantatas of J. S. Bach. Over the years, and with the help of several talented conductors, Canticum Novum ("A New Song") has grown from an informal band of players and singers to the professional chamber orchestra and chorus it is today. Most recently, Canticum Novum has been fortunate to gain the enthusiastic commitment of Yale educated Kenneth Knight as Musical Director and conductor. Kenneth brings a rich career of vocal performance, conducting and teaching to the group.

Music for and by Santa Feans
In addition to providing the Santa Fe music community with a superb repertoire of orchestral chamber music programs, including rarely performed works by baroque and Renaissance composers, Canticum Novum is dedicated to promoting local talent, with the addition of guest appearances by well known performers. Both John and Ken have been very impressed with the richness and depth of musical talent in Santa Fe, resulting in an organization based on, and supporting, the talents of local musicians.
