A unique orchestra for a unique community
The Santa Fe Community Orchestra has played an important role in the Santa Fe community arts scene since its inception in 1982. The orchestra gives amateur musicians the opportunity to play challenging orchestral literature, thereby enriching their lives with the satisfaction and joy of making music. People from all walks of life comprise the membership of the orchestra. Members share their love of music and dedication to their instruments. Many have been serious students of their instruments in the past, and some continue to develop their skills through private study.
To date, the Santa Fe Community Orchestra has given close to 100 free concerts to very favorable reviews. The orchestra regularly engages professional soloists for concerts, and has commissioned many new works by New Mexico composers.
Sharing the love of music with Santa Fe
The Santa Fe Community Orchestra's community outreach comprises several programs designed to promote interest in classical music among the youth of Santa Fe, including a series of youth concerts, instrument-making workshops and an orchestra buddies program. Workshops are also available for adult musicians. In addition, orchestra members have taken the initiative to form chamber ensembles which perform at nursing homes, public schools, art gallery openings and benefit events.
